Significant differences exist between siliciclastic and carbonate sediments; therefore, the course of diagenesis differs in these two fundamentally different kinds of rocks. To illustrate, carbonate sediments are intrabasinal deposits, which are precipitated in some manner from the water in which they are deposited.
The findings of (Serra, 2006) revealed that Nigeria is rich in carbonate rock deposits such as limestone, marble, and dolomite.Marble and limestone reserves are estimated to be over 37.1 million tons and 817.76 million tons, respectively (Felix and Yomi, 2013).Carbonate deposits, on the other hand, are not evenly distributed across the …

The limestone at Mfamosing, near Calabar, is the largest and the purest deposit in Nigeria. It is about 50 metres thick at the quarry site. West of Calabar, another carbonate body occurs in the subsurface that is 450 metres thick. The Calabar Flank is the main carbonate province in Nigeria with well-developed tropical karsts and caves.

The marble deposits, which were re-crystallized from the Precambrian limestone and other fine-grained clastics and sedimentary carbonate rocks (Emofurieta and Ekuajemi 1995, Grant 1970; Gandu et al. 1986), are confined within the southern schist belts of the western half of Nigeria; west of longitude 8°E.

Ooid typically form in agitated waters. Petrographical Study of Ewekoro Carbonate Rocks, in Ibese, South Western Nigeria Carbonate Mud Matrix (Micrite) It is considered as forming very largely by rather rapid chemical or biochemical precipitation in sea water settling to the bottom and at times undergoing some later drifting by weak currents.
Most carbonatites trace their origins to mantle melting ().Radiogenic isotopic compositions of carbonatite-associated REE deposits suggest an origin from enriched mantle domains (enriched mantle type 1, EM1; enriched mantle type 2, EM2; and HIMU type, i.e., high "μ", where μ = 238 U/ 204 Pb). Carbonate melts enriched in REEs …
