Then I got a good used Leonard Grind-R-Lap and cleaned and painted it. I liked it better than the Baldor for most work. A few miles from me, Continental Diamond Tool, New Haven, IN, made me a pair of laps for it using my steel rings. Worked great for brazed carbide and extending the life of inserts. I very seldom use the Baldor anymore.

The Leonard Grind-R-Lap came with a very cleverly designed angle guide to present the tool being ground to the diamond wheel at a precise angle. It also facilitated grinding small angles on the side of a tool, for example, the 14-1/2⁰ angle on an Acme threading tool. Most angle guide designs do not accommodate that particular function.

I use mine for sharpening scrapers, touching up carbide tools, and final sharpening of HSS cutting tools. The diamond wheels are available, but pricey. Best to buy a used one that comes with a decent diamond.
